Zoo Stories (2020)
We are pleased to announce the launch of the DZS educational puppet show series, the result of a second year of partnership between CMAP (Carrie Morris Arts Production) and the Detroit Zoological Society (DZS). There ecological and important environmental works will include three new performance commissions, in addition to special behind-the-scenes footage exploring the creative collaboration between CMAP and DZS staff, geared toward all ages and all audience members who are young at heart.
Shows concluded this past September, visit our Facebook feed to watch past Zoo Stories. The first in the series Sustainable Palm Oil Superheroes explored what palm oil is, where it comes from, and how sustainable use of this product helps us save the planet. Consecutive shows Gorillas On The Line took place in August, and Respect and Reverence at the Detroit Zoo in September, These shows were in continuation of examination of critical topics that are not just globally relevant but also play a role here in Detroit.

The Weight of Air
"The Weight of Air On A Body" is a contemporary puppet performance project illustrating the effects that invisible policies and practices like redlining and disinvestment in Detroit neighborhoods have had on physical space – for residents, for civil servants and on the city’s topography itself. Developed in collaboration with local and national puppet performers, we will be bringing in several artists over the next 18 months to facilitate workshops and artists talks as part of this new project, with a tentative production schedule of spring 2020 for a showing of part 1, fall 2020 for showings of part 2 and spring 2021 for part 3. The Weight of Air project is made possible with support from The Map Fund, Creative Many and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
